Bible. Enmity. Generation of vipers
The offspring of the viper, the seed of the serpentSince the time of Adam's sin, the enmity between the serpent and the woman, the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman, has determined the history of mankind.
14
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou
art
cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Пс 71, 9.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed (τοῦ σπέρματός σου) and her seed (τοῦ σπέρματος αὐτῆς); it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Быт 14, 18. Пс 111, 1, 2, 4. Зах 6, 13. Быт 22, 9. Пс 22. Пс 70. Зах 12, 10. Ин 3, 14. Christ calls the scribes and Pharisees offspring of vipers, i.e. seed of the serpent. Thus, the scribes and the Pharisee, being inside the Old Testament church, fight against the woman and her seed on the side of the ancient serpent, which is the devil and Satan.
[Christ] Denounces them as generation of vipers, seed of serpent, i. e. children of Satan in their nature, opinions, actions.
Hodge, Caspar Wistar
Gospel history
The scribes and Pharisees are serpents, generation of vipers
7
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O
generation of vipers
(Γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν), who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Мф 23, 33.
Лк 3, 7.
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
29
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents (ὄφεις), ye generation of vipers (γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν), how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Мф 3, 7.
16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore
wise
(φρόνιμοι)
as serpents
(οἱ ὄφεις), and harmless as doves.
Лк 10, 3.
Рим 16, 19.
2 Кор 1, 12.
14
And as Moses lifted up
the serpent
(τὸν ὄφιν)
in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
Чис 21, 9.
Ин 12, 32.
2
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present
you as
a chaste virgin to Christ.
Ис 62, 5.
Ос 2, 19.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent (ὁ ὄφις) beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Быт 3, 4. Ин 8, 44. 2 Пет 3, 17. 1 Тим 6, 3.
17
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses
were
as the heads of lions;
and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. 19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents (ὅμοιαι ὄφεσιν), and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
9
And the great dragon (ὁ δράκων ὁ μέγας)
was cast out, that
old serpent
(ὁ ὄφις ὁ ἀρχαῖος), called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Лк 10, 18.
14
And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of
the serpent
(τοῦ ὄφεως).
Дан 7, 25.
Дан 12, 7.
15 And the serpent (ὁ ὄφις) cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
2
And he laid hold on the dragon, that
old serpent
(ὁ ὄφις ὁ ἀρχαῖος), which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
2 Пет 2, 4.
Иуд 1, 6.
Откр 12, 9.
37
He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world (ὁ κόσμος); the good seed (τὸ δὲ καλὸν σπέρμα) are the children of the kingdom (οἱ υἱοὶ τῆς βασιλείας); but the tares are the children of the wicked one (οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ πονηροῦ); 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil (ὁ διάβολος); the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. Иоил 3, 13. Откр 14, 15.
Their spot is not the spot of his children:
